Do many people who are "religious" choose willful ignorance?

This is not to insult anyone. This is just to get a broad perspective on religion. Everyone from varying beliefs are welcome. No need to insult anyone's intelligence that do not share YOUR personal belief (i.e. answers eluding to fairytales....etc). Answer for yourself and not anyone else and tell me why you believe this is so.
