Why do we teach evolution as a scientific fact?

No teacher or scientist worth their salt teaches evolution as fact. If they know what they are doing, they teach it as theory. If they teach it as fact, they just give ammunition to the creationists, who, if they know anything at all about science, only use it to show a minor point or two, and preach those as proof of their own theories.
